The question "how much does a sauna cost?" almost always gets a question back from us: what type, and what's the site like? In Jakarta, the gap between the cheapest and dearest answer is genuinely wide — a small prefab sauna is done at IDR 15–35 million, while a commercial gym project starts at IDR 150 million. So that range stops feeling like a riddle, this article splits the cost per type, highlights the factors peculiar to the capital, and closes with three sample budgets. All indicative figures were recorded from Sauna Jakarta projects we built in 2025–2026; the one-page table of every product is on the Jakarta sauna pricing page.
Price breakdown per sauna type
| Type | 2026 range | Quick note |
|---|---|---|
| Prefab / mini sauna | IDR 15–35 million | A finished unit including installation — the fastest route |
| Infrared cabin, 1–2 people | IDR 30–70 million | Draws only 1.7–2.4 kW; assembled in 1–2 days |
| Steam room 2×2 m | IDR 50–100 million | Full steam; demands complete waterproofing |
| Custom dry sauna 2×2 m | IDR 60–120 million | Seats 4; the mixed-materials budget version from IDR 40 million |
| Commercial sauna | from IDR 150 million | Gyms, spas, hotels — designed for heavy traffic |
What widens each row's range comes down mostly to three decisions: the timber (a local-import mix at the budget end, western red cedar at the premium end), the heater class, and the cabin's final size. The longer list — ice baths, standalone chillers, right up to a full wellness area — is open on our Jakarta sauna pricing page, along with everything a quote already covers.
The Jakarta factor: three things that shift the number
Access and lifting. A landed house on a wide street is the friendliest cost scenario. Once the site changes — a townhouse in a narrow lane, or a tower with a service lift and rationed renovation hours — how the materials go up changes with it: panels flattened at the workshop, carried up in stages, the team's schedule bowing to building rules. The work is the same; it's the logistics that add working days.
Building rules for high-rise units. In an apartment, the first question isn't "how much" but "allowed or not". The route that passes most often is the infrared cabin — no steam, no structural changes — and the whole management application process is written up end to end in our apartment sauna guide.
PLN electrical capacity. Dry sauna heaters and steam generators draw 6–9 kW, meaning the site needs a 7,700–11,000 VA supply. The upgrade is paid by the owner to PLN at the going tariff — it sits outside the contractor's quote, so ask early, not after the cabin is standing. An infrared cabin at 1.7–2.4 kW usually runs with no upgrade at all.
Three filter questions for any offer
The gap between an offer that looks cheap and one that's complete usually hides in these three line items:
- Is the electrical work counted? A proper sauna wants its own circuit from the MCB, protection included. If that line is missing from the quote, it resurfaces later as extra work.
- What's the monthly bill? At two to three sessions a week, electricity rises roughly IDR 200–500K a month for a dry sauna and IDR 100–250K for an infrared cabin; an ice bath chiller contributes IDR 300–700K since it works nonstop holding the water temperature.
- Where are the accessories budgeted? The bucket, ladle, stones and thermometer come to IDR 1.5–8 million a set — small against the project's value, but irritating when they first appear on handover day.
Sample budgets: house, apartment, gym
A landed house. Homeowners in South Jakarta most often land on a custom 2×2 m four-person dry sauna — IDR 60–120 million depending on timber and heater, plus an accessory set. If the yard or master bathroom allows it, folding an ice bath in via the contrast room package (indicative IDR 100–200 million) makes more sense than two separate projects: the survey and electrical work merge into one.
An apartment. The leanest budget: an infrared cabin at IDR 30–70 million, with no upgrade cost since the draw matches a water heater's. What you need to set aside is time, not money — building management approval should be settled before the unit is ordered.
A gym or studio. Commercial saunas start at IDR 150 million, specced for a queue of members rather than family use. A complete contrast zone adds a full ice bath with chiller at IDR 45–90 million — and for commercial buildings, the power audit is the first step, not the last.
How to get a precise quote
A range answers "roughly how much"; a buying decision needs per-item numbers. The route is five steps:
- Send photos of the room, rough dimensions and your district via WhatsApp.
- The custom sauna construction team comes to survey — free across DKI — and checks the installed power while there.
- You receive a visual of the unit in your room plus a detailed quote: materials, heater, electrical work, down to the accessories.
- Agreed? The 50% deposit goes in and materials are ordered; no new cost appears mid-journey without your approval.
- The balance is paid only after the joint test at handover — and from that day the 2-year construction warranty runs.
